Left apartment at 10:00am, gathered our usual Black Sheep coffee and walked north west to the British Museum. We went straight to the reading room, then swung left to the Rosetta Stone (engulfed in a huge crowd) and the Parthenon exhibits. The frieze display was spectacular. We then headed up to rooms 92-94 to view the Japanese paintings and artifacts. One of the most enjoyable aspects of the Museum is the large courtyard space, with the reading room in the center and the lattice glass roof. The café is in this space and lunch consisted of sandwiches and a muffin. Tim drank caffeinated tea with fairly rapid verbal results. We planned the rest of the day. After a quick stop to view the treasures of Sutton Hoo we walked to Tottenham Court road to catch the Central line and then the Northern line to London Bridge. Walked to Borough Market and spent an hour shopping for our picnic amongst the wonderful food stalls. We bought cheese, bread, Cornish pasties, wine, tomatoes and fruit. Our next mode of transport was a ferry from London Bridge upriver to Westminster (we had to sit inside which was a disappointment to Tim). In parliament square we sat behind Churchill on a wall and had our picnic watching the tourists and the workers walk by. Then we headed north to the St Martins theatre for the 30,072nd performance of the Mousetrap. Can’t tell you the ending, its not allowed.
